SILVER

You will wear a smile, a promise on your face,
your special linen shirt,
I will wear my silver dress,
and a purple feather on my hat.

I will dig my bare feet into the sand, and
pay no mind to lurking dry cleaning costs
when my silky dress sweeps the ground
with a swish, like the palm trees around us.

You will hold my hands with both of yours
and read the truth in my eyes -
Tell you simply what you already know:
I will, I do.

and I might shed a tear or two
for the blue of the ocean in front of us
and for the empty seats behind us
That could not and would not be filled.
